BOONE, N.C. -- Sitting at 5-1 in the Sun Belt, Appalachian State volleyball will play its final two Sun Belt West Division opponents this season, taking on West Division leader Texas State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. EST and UT Arlington on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
Appalachian State enters at 13-5 on the season and 5-1 in Sun Belt play. App State posted a 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 25-27, 25-27, 15-10) win over Arkansas State on Sunday.
Emma Longley tallied a season-high 29 kills in the win, hitting .304.
Victoria Wilform tied her season-high with 16 kills, while
Melissa McMath tallied 11.Â
Kara Spicer chipped in with nine kills and five total blocks (three solo, four assists).Â
Becky Porter recorded her team leading eighth double-double, tying her career-high with 59 assists and notching a new career-best in digs with 16. Â
Emma Reilly posted a career-high 28 digs, whileÂ
Sydney Farthing also reached double figures in digs with 11. Porter owns a league leading 10.94 a/s, with Reilly leading the conference in service aces per set, averaging 0.43 per set. Longley ranks second in the Sun Belt, averaging 3.80 k/s, while sitting third in total kills 243.Â
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Texas State has won 11 consecutive matches and sits at 16-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Bobcats swept past Georgia State on Saturday 25-16, 25-14, 25-21. A total of five Bobcats had at leas seven kills in the win, led by Cheyenne Huskey, who posted a match-high 10. Emily DeWalt had a match-high 29 assists, while adding 15 digs. Tyeranee Scott leads the team and sits second in the league in hitting percentage at .368. Madison Daigle is right behind in fifth place in the Sun Belt with a hitting mark of .355. Amy Pflughaupt leads the team with 214 total kills and 3.14 k/s/. Huskey is right behind with 211 total kills. On defense, the Texas State features two players that have over 200 digs in Micah Dinwiddie (284) and DeWalt (233). Texas State also leads the team in team hitting percentage at .263.
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
UT Arlington enters the weekend at 10-7 on the season and 4-3 in conference play. The Mavericks fell to Georgia State on Friday, but rebounded with a 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9) win over Georgia Southern on Sunday. Kylie Jedlicka had a double-double with a match-high 22 kills and 11 digs, with Kylee Kapp also posting a double-double with 22 digs and 15 assists. Madison Hill is hitting a Sun Belt leading .377 on the season and had totaled 177 kills. On defense, Madelyn St. Germain leads the league in dig average (4.57 d/s) and ranks third in overall digs 306.
ALL-TIME RECORDS
Texas State holds a slim 4-3 edge in the all-time series with Appalachian State. The Bobcats have won two straight in the series including a sweep of the Mountaineers in Boone last season. App State leads the all-time series with UTA by a 4-3 count. The teams split the season series last season, with the Mavericks winning 3-0 during the regular season and the Mountaineers winning 3-2 during the Sun Belt Tournament.
