NORFOLK, Va. — The App State volleyball team prevailed in its first conference matchup of the season at Old Dominion, winning with set scores of 23-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-22 on Thursday.

Tied at 22-all in the fourth set, with ODU looking to force a fifth set, App State (8-7, 1-0 SBC) scored the final three points thanks to a kill from Chelsea Gilmore, a service ace from Delanie Grevengoed and a match-ending kill from Charlotte Thompson.

On the first point of the match, Raegan Richardson surpassed 2,000 career assists. Richardson and Bella Hutchens proved to be a lethal duo, with Hutchens totaling 17 kills and a .452 hitting percentage.

Thompson and Gilmore were not far behind with 12 kills at a .333 percentage and eight kills at a .727 percentage, respectively.

MeMe Davis led the team with 15 digs while also dishing out eight assists.

As a team, App State played well in its conference opener both offensively and defensively. The Mountaineers limited the Monarchs (4-8, 0-1 SBC) to a .151 attack percentage while hitting .342. They forced 37 opponent errors while committing only 21.

The two teams square off again Friday at 6 p.m. in Norfolk.
