Gossett Steady In Senior Bowl Rout

BOONE, N.C. — Playing both guard positions, Appalachian State's Colby Gossett capped his college career in strong fashion by performing well at the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Competing on the NFL Network in the nation's highest-profile college all-star game, Gossett helped the South team amass 540 total yards in its 45-16 rout of the North team on Saturday in Mobile, Ala. Gossett received praise from many analysts, including former App State quarterback Daniel Jeremiah, who works for the NFL Network.

Gossett also contributed to Rashaad Penny rushing nine times for 64 yards, including a 31-yard gain.

Measured between 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-5, the 304-pound Gossett wore No. 70 as one of three offensive guards on the South team. Eighty-five players from the Senior Bowl were drafted by NFL teams last year, and he is being projected as a mid-round pick in late April.

Ranked in the preseason as the No. 2 draft-eligible prospect in the Sun Belt Conference by SouthernPigskin.com, Gossett played right guard for the Mountaineers and finished his college career with 46 consecutive starts. He made the All-Sun Belt first team in each of his last two seasons and led App State in 2017 with 76 knockdown blocks, including 21 pancakes.

Gossett played alongside right tackle and fellow senior Beau Nunn on an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks in 2017 (No. 2 among FBS teams) and helped the Mountaineers rush for more than 300 yards in each of their last three games. App State ranked in the top 20 nationally in sacks allowed and the top 25 in rushing yards per game in each of Gossett's four seasons as a starter.
