PASADENA, Calif. — Appalachian State's
A.J. Howard and
Beau Nunn helped the National team claim a 23-0 win against the American team in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Saturday at the Rose Bowl.
Howard recorded four tackles and one highlight-reel pass breakup as a safety, and Nunn contributed at right guard as an offense directed by Toledo's Logan Woodside and two other quarterbacks averaged 3.4 yards per carry. The game was scoreless at halftime, and the National team had two rushing touchdowns in the second half.
For his efforts, Howard was one of five players who received
"Who Won the Day?" recognition from breakingfootball.com.
Howard started in 38 of his 51 career games at App State, totaling 219 tackles, four interceptions and 11 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-4, 306-pound Nunn played right tackle and started 41 career games for the Mountaineers. They were joined in California by NFL players and App State alums Doug Middleton and Ronald Biair.
