BOONE, N.C. — For the second-consecutive week, Appalachian State University volleyball's freshman middle blocker Kara Spicer was named the Sun Belt Conference's Freshman of the Week. With this award, she became the first Sun Belt student-athlete this season to receive two weekly honors.
Spicer was also named to the Appalachian Invitational All-Tournament Team for her performances over the weekend.
The Peoria, Ariz. native led the Mountaineers averaging 3.92 kills per set with 47 total kills. She made just 10 errors for a team-high .440 hitting percentage.
The freshman recorded at least 15 kills in all three matches and tied her season-high twice with 17 kills against Towson on Friday and against Virginia on Saturday.
Spicer and the Mountaineers head to North Dakota on Friday, Sept. 8 for the UND Classic. Appalachian will play South Dakota State and North Dakota on Friday and then face George Washington and North Dakota State on Saturday.
