BOONE, N.C. –– Appalachian State University men's soccer (2-1-1) would end the weekend with a 1-1 draw against LIU Brooklyn (0-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers had the edge with a 1-0 lead for the first 71 minutes of action following
Ian Bennett's penalty kick at the seven-minute mark of the contest. The goal was Bennett's first of the season and his career while becoming the sixth Mountaineer this season to register a score.
It wasn't until 72:06 when the Blackbirds would tie things up when Rasmus Hansen found Naeem Charles for the score inside the box.
Marc Pfrogner had a shot attempt at the net while LIU had a header right at the end of regulation but
Jake Chasteen picked up the clutch save to extend the contest into overtime.
Neither team had a shot goal in the extra two periods while the Apps would fire off two shot attempts. The Black and Gold had a number of near misses at a second goal, including multiple shots that would hit the crossbar.
Daniel Avila's shot at 60' would've given the Apps a 2-1 lead and an impressive score in the difficulty department. Ten minutes later, Bennett almost bagged his second goal of the game, but the same result as Avila as he hit the crossbar.
Chasteen got his fourth start of the season playing all 110 minutes, amassing four saves.
Appalachian will return to action next weekend against ETSU on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Ted Mack.
