Biography

2019: Hernandez started 15 games on the season and played in 19 matches...registered a season-high three points with a goal and an assist in the Mountaineers 4-0 win over Howard (10/12)...led the team in assists with four, including assists in the wins against American, UNCA and Howard...took 10 shots, with three on target… took a season-high three shots in the regular season matchup vs. Howard.

2018: Started in 16 of 17 matches for the Mountaineers ... saw 999 minutes of action ... led the team with a career-high three assists .... helped the Apps earn their first winning season since 2012 with an 8-6-3 mark and their highest standing in the Sun Belt at third ... played a season-high 87 minutes against UNC Asheville (9/12) ... recorded the match-tying assist to Austin Hill in the 2-1 upset over then-No. 22 Coastal Carolina (10/13) .... registered his other helpers against VMI (9/1) and UNCG (9/22). 

2017: Started 17 of 18 matches in an outstanding freshman campaign…logged 1392 minutes, including 110 against LIU-Brooklyn (Sept. 3)…finished the season leading the team in goals (2), points (6) and shots on goal (7)…scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Central Arkansas (Sept. 1), earning him the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week…assisted the game-winning goal in two 1-0 victories, one against Longwood (Sept. 16) and another against UNC Asheville (Oct. 10) ... was the only freshman in the league to lead his team in goals scored.

“Juan is a soccer junkie and has a great passion for the game. He has a great combination of athleticism and technical ability. He is versatile and can play many attacking positions. He has had to fight and earn everything in one of the top youth academy’s in the U.S. We are looking forward to having him here and have no doubt that he will have a great impact on our program over the next four years.”

High School: Played for the Orlando City U18 Pro Academy under David Longwell ... crowned the 2015-16 League Champions of the Southeast Division ... appeared in 24 games in 2015-16, scoring 10 goals ... saw action in 13 games in 2016-17, getting two goals and assisting on two more.

Personal: Full name is Juan Jose Hernandez ... son of Luz Elena Jimenez ... born July 23, 1998 ... has three older siblings: Juan David, Juan Pablo and Jessica ... intends to major in economics and minor in sustainable technology ... plans to play in the MLS after graduation.
