BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer (2-7-2, 1-2 SBC) was upended at home by a late Troy (4-7-2, 2-2 SBC) goal on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex
The Mountaineers fought the entire match when at times it looked like they were about to take control of the contest and the lead. Appalachian held the advantage in shots, 13-7, Â and shots on goal, 4-3. App had near misses at the net including multiple shots that hit the crossbar during the contest.
Troy's Kate Lorenz scored the match's only goal when she had a breakaway before finding the back of the frame. Appalachian continued to find a chance to tie the match to force overtime, but couldn't find the right opportunity in the closing minutes of the game.
Four different Mountaineers fired off shots at the goal, with
Jamie Palermo,
Lindsey Tully,
Kat Greer and
Maggie Hanusek all tallying shots on goal.
Taylor Ray started her 11th match of the season, playing all 90 minutes during the match. She came away with one save on three shots by Troy.Â
The Black and Gold look to regroup and get back to .500 in conference play on Friday, Sept. 29 when they host Arkansas State at 7 p.m.
