Mountaineers Athletic Fund

Featured Yosef Club Members of the Month: Doug & Nancy Coley

July 2017

Are you alumni of Appalachian State University? If so what year did you graduate?
"We met at a Kappa Alpha Fraternity summer function in 1976, graduated in 1979 and married in 1980."

What made you become an Appalachian State Mountaineer fan?
"We started cheering for our mountaineers as students, before the stadium had an upper deck. We watched it grow into what it is today. We have always supported Appalachian. We purchased season tickets in 1982 - two years after we were married. We really could not afford to buy season tickets at that time, but we knew for Appalachian to get better and bigger, alumni had to step up to the plate and give back to our Appalachian family. Once we made the commitment for season tickets, we joined the Yosef Club to support student-athletes. Once we had children we wanted them to become involved. They loved coming to events and meeting Gerald Adams in the Yosef Club Room. Ross and Sarah Kathryn might win a tee shirt or something and they too became hooked on Appalachian in a short period of time."

What is your favorite memory of Appalachian State Athletics?
"Our favorite memories are the Michigan game win and the bowl games. We have had the privilege to travel to all those games with our dear friends, Mike and Susan Mills."

In your opinion, what is the best part of a home football game at Appalachian State on a fall Saturday?
"We enjoy seeing our friends, tailgating with our friends and family, and of course winning!"

What makes you most proud of Appalachian State?
"The integrity of our school athletic program is outstanding. Our coaches and staff are top notch.  We are proud of what has been accomplished with our programs. When you go to events and our coaches talk about their programs, you walk away very proud of what is happening at Appalachian."

What made you decide to start supporting the education of current Appalachian State student-athletes through the Yosef Club?
"We knew we wanted the programs to grow and everyone needs to step up and do what they can to help make it happen. If everyone pitches in, it makes a big difference. You might think what you give doesn't matter, but it really does."

What advice would you give to other members of the App State family who are wondering what they can do to help the Yosef Club and Appalachian State athletics as a whole?
"Appalachian is a family, we support each other and have room for more, come be a part of our Appalachian family and help us to grow together!  It is contagious!"
