BOONE, N.C. –– Appalachian State University men's basketball and head coach Jim Fox announced its second addition for the 2017-18 season with the signing of Justin Forrest (Decatur, Ga./Greenforest McCalep Christian Academy) on Tuesday.
Forrest, a six-foot, two-inch, 195-pound combo guard and son of former Georgia Tech star James Forrest, will come to App State after posting back-to-back Georgia High School Association Class A-Private Boys State Championships. His father played for heralded former Appalachian State basketball head coach Bobby Cremins while at Georgia Tech.
Forrest recently led Greensforest to its second-straight Class A-Private championship. He finished with 36 points, two assists and two rebounds in an 81-57 win over Southwest Atlanta Christian in the title game. For his efforts, Forrest was named to the Class A-Private GHSA Boys All-State First Team.
Over his junior and senior seasons, Forrest averaged 17.1 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 44.0 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from beyond the arc. During that span, he lead his team to a 57-7 combined record.
Forrest will join O'Showen Williams as the two newest commitments for Appalachian State heading into 2017-18. Both will join Nick Hough and Hunter Seacat in their first year of eligibility.
