App State Falls to ECU on the Road

GREENVILLE, N.C.- The Appalachian State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss on the road in Greenville against Eastern Carolina University.

At No. 1 doubles, Gabrielle Wreder and Megan Mullen fell 6-0 to Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz. No. 2 doubles partners Heidi Swope and McKayla Zupan were defeated 6-0 by Maria Gomez and Nastja Rettich.

The No. 3 doubles matched was unfinished with Michelle Castro and Maria Storozheva up on Rebecca Morse and Melissa Machado.

Morse looked to pick up wins in back to back matches, but came up short, falling to Ruiz 6-3, 6-1.

Wreder made No. 2 singles interesting by taking the second set into a tiebreaker, but Hofbauer was able to come away with the win, 6-1, 7-6.

Swope paired against Castro in singles play, was defeated 6-3, 6-2. Machado was able to take the first set into a tiebreak but was outlasted by Storozheva 7-5, 6-3.

Marisa Anthony fell to Nastja Rettich 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match. Sarah Sarjoo defeated Megan Mullen, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 6 slot.

The Apps look to rebound tomorrow against Old Dominion in Norfolk with the first serve scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
