DAVIDSON, N.C.- Appalachian State University (3-9) suffered a 6-1 defeat to a tough Davidson (6-2) squad on Saturday at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
Sophomore Taylor Bygrave moved to 6-3 on the year with her sixth win in a row, which was also the only point App recorded on the day. Bygrave dealt Ava Todd at the five spot, 6-3, 6-2, for the triumph.
The Black and Gold could not capitalize in doubles play, as the Wildcats took all three matches.
Gabrielle Wreder and Megan Mullen played together for the ninth time this season but fell to Samantha Armas and Megan Scholvinck, 6-4. Heidi Swope and McKayla Zupan suffered a 6-3 loss to Anna Feaster and Ally Sexton.
At the No. 3 doubles slot, Melissa Machado and Rebecca Morse were defeated by Todd and Alexandra Abele, 6-0.
Swope lined up in the No. 1 slot and fell to Feaster, 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 2 match, Morse was able to take Scholvinck into the tiebreaker in the second set but came up short in the hard-fought match, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Wreder faced off against Gabrielle Centenari in the No. 3 spot and fell 6-0. 6-0. Machado played in the No. 4 match, but could not hold off Abele as the Wildcat won, 6-2, 6-4.
Mullen fell in the No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-2, to Armas.
App State looks to stop the skid against NC Central as part of a two-match homestand beginning on March 4th. The first serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
