BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State (6-12) volleyball is set to take on two SBC Georgia teams on Friday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 8 at Holmes Convocation Center.
The team will play Georgia State (7-9) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Georgia Southern (5-9) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers follow close behind Georgia Southern who is third in conference standings for the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference. The Mountaineers are tied at fourth with the Georgia State Panthers in the East Division, each with a 1-3 SBC record.
Kara Spicer and
Melissa McMath look to continue leading in kills this weekend, each with over 200 so far this season.
Grace Morrison and
Lexi Kohut, however, led the team last weekend against UT Arlington with seven kills each.
Ashlyn Brown dominates in assists for the season with 678.
Amanda Krahl had a striking performance against UTA last week with 23 total assists and looks to continue leading as well.
Olivia Loeffler tops the team in digs with 274 total this season and 13 from the last match against UTA.
App State looks to take two wins this weekend as both Georgia State and Georgia Southern are coming off of SBC losses.
Looking at the Georgia State Panthers
Crystal Lee leads the Panthers in kills with 172, and Sarah Renner has a team-high of 369 assists as setter. Celeste Friesen will be one to watch as a former Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week from Sept. 25. She has 313 digs on the season.
The Panthers recently fell to two SBC opponents – South Alabama and Louisiana.
Looking at the Georgia Southern Eagles
For the Georgia Southern Eagles, Lauren Reichard leads the offense in kills with 123 while Catherine Murray follows with 119 kills this season. Reichard is also a threat at the net with 55 total blocks.
App State has an impressive 32-16 series record against Georgia Southern, and the Mountaineers have won the last five of six matches.
