Sun Belt Partnering With American Cancer Society

NEW ORLEANS - In support of Appalachian State University women's basketball coach Angel Elderkin and her battle with endometrial cancer, the Sun Belt Conference will partner with the American Cancer Society and Coaches vs. Cancer for “Suits and Sneakers' for the week of Jan. 28 to help raise awareness and bring in donations, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Teaming up with Coaches vs. Cancer, each school in the league will participate in the 2017 3-Point Challenge as for every trifecta made in the month of February, the schools will donate the funds to assist the American Cancer Society in their research and services. The conference will crown a Sun Belt 3-Point Champion while all schools will be entered into a national contest for a chance to win the honor as the 3-Point Collegiate Champion.

All student-athletes and coaches will wear black and peach colored t-shirts in support for Coach Elderkin during warmups and before tip-off on Jan. 26 and Jan. 28. Host institutions for those two dates have also partnered with the American Cancer Society to accept donations and provide awareness on cancer prevention, early detection, and a healthy lifestyle.

Fans can donate by visiting the Sun Belt Conference Women's Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge by visiting HERE, while you can also donate to Appalachian's donation page as well by clicking HERE

Coach Elderkin was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in the summer and completed her chemotherapy treatments in mid-November. The third-year head coach has not missed a game this season, and for her courage, spirit and dedication, she earned the Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award in December.

App State will host both Texas schools on Jan. 26 (Texas State) and Jan. 28 (UT Arlington).
