NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2016-17 men's basketball schedule on Thursday. The conference will utilize an 18-game conference schedule.
Different from the previous two seasons, men's basketball games will be played on a Saturday-Monday schedule during the 2016-17 season. Dates for Appalachian State's conference games have been set with each team only traveling four times for two-game road trips during the upcoming season. Each men's program will also take just one, single-game road trip all season. The single-game road trips will be for rivalry games.
Appalachian State will open the conference schedule in the Lone Star State on Dec. 31 against Texas State. The Mountaineers will play its first home contest on Jan. 7 against Little Rock, while Sun Belt play concludes on March 5 when the Apps host the conference's newest member, Coastal Carolina. The Black and Gold will finish the conference schedule with three consecutive home contests.
Tip times for conference games will be announced by each institution at a later date. The 2017 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championship returns to New Orleans and the Lakefront Arena for the fourth consecutive season.
