RALEIGH, N.C. – Easily the highlight of day one at the Raleigh Relays for the Appalachian State University women's track and field team was the performance by junior Tristin Van Ord in the 10,000-meter run. Van Ord topped her previous program record with a time of 34:19.36. That time topped her previous record by just over four seconds.
Appalachian State is competing against premier competition this weekend, which features North Carolina, Duke, Connecticut, Wake Forest, Boston College, East Carolina, James Madison, Delaware, Rhode Island, LIU Brooklyn, Hampton, Elon, Indiana State, Temple among others.
The Mountaineers got an eighth-place finish from India McWhorter in the discus. McWhorter placed with a throw of 150-11.0. Also in the field, Darlene Girardeau took fourth in the invitation long jump with a leap of 19-1.50.
The sprint medley relay team consisting of Brooke Brekke, Taylor Drummonds, Elisa Sargent and Shelby Howell placed fourth overall with a time of 4:05.80.
In the invitation high jump, Makayla Roten took eighth with a jump of 5-5.00.
