BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball (4-4) makes the trek to Atlanta this weekend for a 2 p.m. contest against a touch Georgia Tech (8-1) squad on Sunday at 2 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion.

About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers fell to Radford last Sunday in a tough 57-54 setback in the Holmes Center. Joi Jones scored a team-high 19 points while Madi Story (13) and Q Murray (11) followed suit. Story snagged a team-best and season-high nine boards. App State did have a chance to tie the game with a three at the end, but fell short. Appalachian did take its first lead of the game in the fourth quarter, but Destinee Walker scored seven points in a row while trailing 49-47 to give RU the lead for good.

Doesn't Get Easier
The Apps start a tough four-game stretch this Sunday against the Yellow Jackets followed by Tennessee (4-3), UNC Asheville (4-2) and UTA (5-2). The four opponents are a combined 21-8 (.724) this season. Three of the four opponents in GT, UT and UNCA made the postseason in 2015-16, while the Vols and Bulldogs earned berths to the NCAA Tournament. 

What to Watch For
• App State scored a season-low 16 points in the paint and was held scoreless in fast break situations in the loss on Sunday to Radford. See if App State can get the easy buckets it has been priding on this season.

 •  Ashley Bassett-Smith and Bria Carter combined to go 0-for-7 from the field with just six boards and fouling out in the process against the Highlanders. See if the senior frontcourt players can bounce back against GT.

•  The Mountaineers have been involved in some close games this season as six of eight have been decided by nine points or less, and four by five points or less. 

 • In the last 13 road games dating back to last season, Jones has averaged 17.3 points on 46. percent shooting while bringing down five boards per game and dishing out 2.6 assists. In addition, Jones is also shooting 76.1 from the line. Anticipate Jones to have another solid outing on the road.

• App State plays at a higher pace than Georgia Tech according to natstat.com See if the Mountaineers can push the tempo against a Georgia Tech squad that has yet to go over 81 possessions.

 •   The Yellow Jackets are 8-1 this season and most recently won their last two contests against in-state foes Georgia State and Mercer.

•  GT's lone loss came against Michigan in the B1G Ten/ACC Challenge.

•  Georgia Tech is coming off a 70-50 win over Mercer on Wednesday.

•  Francesca Pan and Imani Tilford leads the team in scoring at 11.6 and 11.4 points per game, respectively.

•  Elo Edeferioka and Chanin Scott both lead the team in rebounding at 4.8 rpg.

• Georgia Tech is led by 14-year head coach MaChelle Joseph, who has amassed 260 wins.

• GT returns seven letterwinners from last season and three starters while bringing in five newcomers.

•  The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish eighth in the Preseason ACC Poll.

• GT finished 20-13 last season while earning a berth to the WNIT.
