About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
Joi Jones scored a career-high 29 points on 12-for-20 shooting on Sunday against CofC but it wasn't enough in a 65-62 setback in the Mountaineers' home opener. Bria Carter scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 14 boards for the third double-double of her career. App State attempted a season-high 41 free throws but missed 18 of those attempts, while CofC got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and a 37-20 advantage at the half.
What to Watch for
• Carter has averaged 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game over the past two games. Carter has been a monster on the glass, especially on the offensive end with 11 rebounds. Carter had nine offensive boards against CofC. See if the senior forward can keep up the aggressiveness.
• Jones continues to light it up in the second half and most noticeably in the final five minutes of games this season where she is shooting 68.8 percent (11-16) from the field and 77.8 percent (14-18) from the free throw line. The Apps have been in close games throughout the season. If it's tight on Wednesday, expect Jones to step up once again.
• After averaging 12.3 ppg over the first three games, Q Murray has put in just 3.3 in the past three contests. See if the guard can get back to her scoring ways against the Aggies on Wednesday.
• In the three losses this season, the Apps have turned the ball over an average of 21.3 times per game while forcing teams to cough up the ball at a 19.3 clip, equaling a minus-2.0 turnover margin. In the three wins, the Apps have averaged just 15.0 turnovers per game and forced 23.0 tpg with an impressive turnover margin of plus-8.0. See if the Apps can turn up the pressure.
• App State has just two fast break points in the three defeats opposed to 24 in three wins. See if the Black and Gold can push the tempo to get some easy buckets.
