BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey stumbled to the Lock Haven Bald Eagles 3-0 Friday night at the Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field under a constant rainfall.

Both teams were slipping and sliding all around the pitch, but the pouring rain did not stop the hockey squads from playing a competitive match.

The majority of the first period was played at midfield with little attacks at the net. Lock Haven (7-4, 3-2 A-10) only delivered eight shots, and the Mountaineers (1-10) were right behind them administering seven towards the goal. Despite the lack of offensive plays, the Bald Eagles were able to connect two of their five shots on target to take the 2-0 lead at the half.

In the 9th minute, Alysica Smith barreled down the field and slammed in an unassisted shot into the goal to give LHU the one goal advantage. After 18 minutes of flip-flopping possessions, Tamia Roach discovered an opening off of LHU's sole corner of the half to snatch the two-goal cushion.

Less than ten minutes into the second, Roach linked up with Stephanie Whiteman and Colleen McCabe to score her second goal of the match by cracking the ball into the left cage.

Yearning for a goal, App State continued to strike up plays off of their two corners dishing out four shots, but the Mountaineers fell short, and Lock Haven stole the match 3-0.

Offense

Although App State edged Lock Haven in corners (6-5), the Bald Eagles attacked the goal line seven more times (18-11) with 11 shots on goal.

Junior Taylor Cimbalist was at the forefront of Appalachian's offense recording five shots with four smacked towards goal. Right behind her was Rebecca McLean who whaled three shots with one on goal.

At Net

Goalkeeper Rachel Gaines dove onto the turf for every ball and seized eight saves in 70:00 minutes.
