Box Score BOONE, N.C. –– Appalachian State University volleyball fell for the 16th straight match in a straight-set sweep (17-25, 11-25, 14-25) to Coastal Carolina on Friday evening inside the Holmes Center.
The Mountaineers (2-17, 0-6 Sun Belt) were led by senior middle blocker Ashton Gregory with nine kills and finished with an .800 hit percentage. Emma Longley also finished with nine kills.
Amanda Krahl helped both Gregory and Longley and finished with 24 assists.
Defensively, both Longley and Kennedy Wilson collected four digs each.
Late in the opening set, the Mountaineers found themselves down by just three at 18-15, but the Chanticleers (14-4, 5-1 Sun Belt) put together a 7-2 run to end the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The next two sets would be dominated by Coastal Carolina. In the second set, the Chanticleers went up by as many as 14 and would maintain that lead for a 25-11 set victory. Coastal would build an 11-point lead in the third set and would finish the sweep with a 25-14 set win.
Appalachian will now travel to Coastal Carolina to finish the back half of a home-and-home with the Chanticleers. First serve from Conway, S.C. is set for 2 p.m.
