UL Lafayette Hits Six Homers to Even Series
BOONE, N.C. — Less than 24 hours after Appalachian State University baseball limited UL Lafayette's high-powered offense to just one run and five hits in a 2-1 Friday night victory, the Ragin' Cajuns exploded for six home runs and 12 extra-base hits in a 20-6 win over App State on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

For much of the afternoon, it looked like the clubs would play a second-straight barn-burner, as Appalachian State (14-34, 6-19 Sun Belt) led 2-1 after one inning and trailed just 9-6 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mountaineers rode the momentum into the top of the sixth inning and easily recorded the first two outs of the frame. However, UL Lafayette (30-16, 14-8 Sun Belt) strung together five hits with two outs, including RBI doubles by Tyler Girouard, Dylan Butler and Nick Thurman, and scored six back-breaking runs to turn the three-run lead into a commanding 15-6 advantage.

The Ragin' Cajuns went on to plate three runs in the seventh and one apiece in the eighth and ninth to account for the final margin.

After combining to go 1-for-16 on Friday night, the first four batters in UL Lafayette's starting lineup — Blake Trahan, Kyle Clement, Stefan Trosclair and Girouard — collected 13 of the Cajuns' 19 hits and drove in 11 of the club's 20 runs on Saturday.

The Ragin' Cajuns' six home runs were the most ever hit by a visiting team at Smith Stadium and tied the stadium record set by Appalachian State against North Carolina A&T in the fifth game ever played at the facility on April 18, 2007. UL Lafayette's six homers tripled the most surrendered by the Mountaineers in any game this season and its 20 runs were also the most allowed by the Apps in 2015.

Sophomores Matt Brill and Brian Bauk had two hits apiece to pace Appalachian State's nine-hit attack. Brill reached base for the 17th-consecutive game, matching the longest on-base streak by a Mountaineer this season.

The rubber match of the three-game Sun Belt Conference series is set for Sunday at noon at Smith Stadium. Appalachian State's annual Senior Day ceremony begins at 11:40 a.m.
