Men's Tennis Hands Gardner-Webb a Loss, 5-2

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis got a win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday with a final score of 5-2 at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.

The Mountaineers won the doubles point to jump out to a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs, before the Apps would clinch the match by earning four singles victories.

Garner-Webb got a win at No. 1 doubles, but Appalachian's No. 2 tandem of Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster would tie the match with a 6-5 win, while the No. 3 team of Oliver Casey and Trey Morris clinched the point with a 6-3 victory.

In singles play, Webster and Morris each earned quick two-set wins with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. Casey was able to give Appalachian another win at the No. 1 spot, clinching the match for the Mountaineers, by beating his opponent in two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.

Maddocks rounded out the wins for App State, defeating his opponent at the No. 3 spot with a scores of 6-3 and 6-5. 

Appalachian State is back in action on Friday, April 10 when they take on Charlotte at 2:30 p.m.
