PREVIEW
Appalachian State (9-21, 2-10 Sun Belt) snapped a six-game losing streak, the final four of which came in agonizing fashion, with mid-week wins over High Point (8-3 on Tuesday at Smith Stadium) and North Carolina A&T (12-10 on Wednesday in Greensboro). With the victories, the Mountaineers have picked up consecutive wins for the third time this season.

Appalachian's offense was the primary catalyst behind the mid-week triumphs. The Mountaineers hit .333 (22-for-66), slugged .667 (four doubles and six home runs) and scored 20 runs (their most in a two-game stretch this season) in the wins over High Point and N.C. A&T. Eight different Mountaineers had multiple hits over the two contests, led by seniors Michael Pierson (4-for-6, two home runs, four RBI) and Noah Holmes (4-for-8, two doubles, a home run, three RBI).

App State will look to continue the offensive fireworks against a Troy pitching staff that ranks eighth in the 11-team Sun Belt with a 4.41 team ERA and has surrendered 19 home runs in 30 games, which is tied for the second-highest total in the league.

Offensively, the Trojans rank ninth in the Sun Belt in hitting (.247) and runs scored (128).

Despite the pedestrian statistical rankings, Troy is an impressive 5-2 in one-run games this season, which has helped it to a 15-15 overall record and 4-5 mark in conference play. The Trojans and UT Arlington (13-14, 4-5 Sun Belt) currently occupy the final two spots in next month's Sun Belt Tournament, three-and-a-half games ahead of Appalachian. The tournament will be played May 20-24 at Troy's Riddle-Pace Field.

Troy is playing its first Sun Belt series in two weeks after seven-straight non-conference games. The Trojans were 4-3 during the seven-game non-league stretch with a four-game sweep over Alabama A&M and losses to Jacksonville State, Florida A&M and Alabama State.

This weekend's set wraps up a stretch of 4-of-5 games at home for Appalachian State. Following the series against Troy, the Mountaineers play five-straight on the road, beginning with Tuesday's contest at No. 18 South Carolina.
