PREVIEW
Appalachian State endured a rugged road trip last week, traveling to perennial national power South Carolina on Tuesday and to South Alabama, which owns the best overall record in the Sun Belt Conference, over the weekend. The Mountaineers came away with one victory in the grueling four-game stretch, a 6-5, 10-inning triumph at USA on Saturday afternoon.
App State looks to get back on track this week, beginning with Tuesday's contest at ETSU. The Mountaineers and Bucs are meeting on the baseball diamond for the 133rd time since 1955. Appalachian has only played Western Carolina more during that 60-year stretch (150 meetings).
The Mountaineers own a 76-55-1 advantage in the last 132 games between the two schools, which are separated by just 55 miles. App State swept the clubs' two-game season series last year with a 7-6 walkoff win in Boone and a 9-5, 10-inning triumph in Johnson City. The season sweep was Appalachian State's first over ETSU since 2010.
The Bucs come into Tuesday's game with a 14-20 overall record. In its first season back in the Southern Conference after an 11-year hiatus from the league, ETSU is 3-6 in conference play, good for eighth in the league standings.
On Wednesday, Appalachian State begins a four-game homestand against North Carolina A&T (4-30). The meeting is the second of the season between the two clubs, as the Mountaineers held on for a 12-10 win at N.C. A&T exactly two weeks ago.
The Mountaineers' April 1 victory over the Aggies was their 14th-straight win in the series. Appalachian State holds a commanding 49-6 advantage all-time against N.C. A&T, dating back to 1983.
