BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's tennis grabbed early momentum by winning the doubles point and cruised to a 5-2 victory over Davidson in its regular-season finale on Saturday at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.

The Mountaineers (10-11) also picked up wins in four of six singles contests as they topped the Wildcats (12-9) to send Robert Jenkins out with a team win on Senior Day.

Appalachian's No. 1 doubles tandem of Jack Maddocks/Scott Webster earned an easy 6-1 win before Davidson drew even with a victory at No. 2. However, the Mountaineer duo of Zach Bost/Steve Lake came away with a 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point and give Appalachian State a 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Wildcats tied the contest at 1-1 with a win at No. 6, but Appalachian State scored four-straight singles victories to run away with the match. Webster was the first to put his opponent away with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 before Trey Morris grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Oliver Casey clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 and Maddocks added a fifth point in a thrilling 6-2, 5-7, 13-11 win at No. 3.

Webster finishes the regular season at 17-4 while Morris (13-8), Casey (12-9) and Maddocks (11-9) also end the regular season with double-digit wins. The doubles pairing of Maddocks/Webster finish with a team-best 12-5 doubles record.

The Mountaineers will travel to New Orleans next week where they will take part in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament from April 16-19. The winning team will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
