Appalachian State University baseball concludes a five-game stint in the Peach State with a two-game series at Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to forecasted rain, game times have been changed to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 1 p.m. Wednesday at UGA's Foley Field. Both games will be shown live on SEC Network+.
Appalachian State (5-9) is riding a season-long four-game losing streak following a defeat at NC State last Wednesday and a three-game weekend sweep at Georgia Southern. All four losses came by two runs or less, including walkoff defeats on Friday and Sunday at Georgia Southern.
The tough-luck Mountaineers are 1-7 in games decided by two runs or less this season and, despite being four games below .500, have been outscored by just two runs on the campaign (65-63).
Since suffering its own three-game sweep at Georgia Southern two weekends ago, Georgia has won 4-of-5 games to move to 10-5 on the season. In contrast to Appalachian State, three of the Bulldogs' last four wins have come by two runs or less.
Despite being separated by just 250 miles, Appalachian State and Georgia have met just six previous times on the baseball diamond. In their most recent meetings, the clubs split a two-game series on March 12-13, 2013 at Foley Field. UGA won the opener, 9-4, before App State claimed the finale, 8-5.
The 2013 triumph at Georgia is one of Appalachian's 12 victories over power-conference opponents since 2012.
Tuesday and Wednesday's games wrap up the Mountaineers' grueling stretch of 16-straight games away from home to open the season. Appalachian State is slated to finally open the home portion of its schedule this weekend with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series versus Texas State.
