Field Hockey Drops Season Finale to No. 12 Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Appalachian State University field hockey played its final match of the 2015 season on Saturday at No. 12 Liberty and fell to the Flames by a score of 12-0.

The Mountaineers concluded their first season of the Meghan Dawson era with an overall record of 4-13, while Liberty snapped a two-game skid to improve to 12-6 and now awaits a possible selection into the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament.

"I'm happy with how the girls adjusted to all the transitions this fall," said Dawson. "The seniors had good attitudes about the adjustments and they were a great class to start with here at App. Liberty is a top-tier team and it showed today. They played well as a team with great ball speed and a good work rate."

The home team held a 44-3 advantage in shots and a 5-1 lead in corners while the visitors registered 13 saves to the Flames' 3. The Black and Gold's shots came from Caroline Phillips (2) and Hanna French (1).

Six different players scored for the hosts including Hannah Doherty (4 goals), Ashlee Krulock (3), Sarah Gipe (2), Morgan Mummau (1), Erin Bartley (1), and Pippa Best (1). In goal, Cristina Ceppi tied her season high in saves with 13 (Aug. 28 - Louisville).

Ceppi, Anna Copsey, French, Robbi Jensen, Charlotte Kirwan, and C. Phillips each played their final match as a Mountaineer and for 2016, Appalachian will return seven players that started at least 10 matches this season.
