Women's Cross Country Finishes in 16th

EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Appalachian State University women's cross country took 16th place out of 33 teams at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday afternoon and was led by all-region performer, Tristin Van Ord, in 20th out of 235 total runners.

"I'm a little disappointed we didn't improve on our regional ranking, but if a few things had gone our way, both teams could have been in the top 13," said head coach Michael Curcio. "I'm very happy for Tristin (Van Ord). That's the best finish for an individual since Meg Gaffney placed 19th in 2008. Tristin's effort combined with her grades will earn her academic all-american recognition for a second time. Natalie Kile did well in her first regional meet as a sophomore and Dana Cox finished her senior season with her best race of the year as our second-best finisher."

Van Ord was named all-region for the first time in her career after finishing the 6K with a time of 21:29.8. Cox joined the junior in the top 100 as she placed 78th and was clocked at 22:44.0.

The next Mountaineer in was Kile in 105th (23:03.0) and she was followed by Hana Ratcliffe in 109th (23:04.3) before Brittany Williams was the final to score for App State in 121st (23:16.6).

The Apps will now look forward to the indoor track and field season, which is set to begin on Dec. 4 with the Appalachian Open in Boone.
