LORETTO, Pa. - Appalachian State University field hockey held Saint Francis scoreless for nearly the entire first half until the Red Flash scored two goals right before halftime and added five more in the second period to win 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.
"Saint Francis is a really good team that we hung with for the majority of the first half, but couldn't hang with the second half," said head coach Meghan Dawson. "They challenged our basics and showed they were the better team today. We are going to focus on the things that we can control and work to get better every practice."
The Mountaineers fell to 4-12 on the season and have dropped four straight while Saint Francis (9-6) took home a senior day win and has won five of its last six.
The home team tallied 15 shots to just three from App State (13-3 in shots on goal) and 14 corners to Appalachian's four. Caroline Phillips had two of those shots and the third came from Jordan Van Cleave. In goal, Cristina Ceppi registered six saves to Samantha Zeiders' three.
In the first half, the Red Flash scored in the 34th and 35th minutes to head into the intermission up 2-0. For the next 35 minutes, the hosts converted on shot attempts in the 41st, 46th, 48th, 56th, and 57th minutes. Irene Fritschy and Brea Seabrook both netted hat tricks while the team's leader in goals, Selena Adamshick, put in the seventh score.
Appalachian State's season finale will be on Saturday, Nov. 7 at No. 9 liberty with the start time set for 11 a.m. in Lynchburg, Va.
