LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Appalachian State University field hockey surrendered three first-half goals and one more in the second to Lock Haven, who improved to 12-0 in non-conference games on Friday.
"Lock Haven is a really quality team," said head coach Meghan Dawson. "They have good fundamentals and work well together. All of their goals came off of corner rebounds, which is a major area we need to improve upon. Every game is a learning experience for this growing team and we try to find the positives and areas to improve on after every game. Today was no different."
With the 4-0 loss to the Bald Eagles, the Mountaineers were shutout for the second-straight game and just the fourth time all season.
App State fell to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in true road games while Lock Haven improved to 15-3 with a second straight win and eight victories in its last nine contests. The home team held the advantage in total shots (14-7), shots on goal (8-4) and penalty corners (10-3) while each team notched four saves in goal.
The Bald Eagles scored in the fifth, 16th, 34th, and 42nd minutes with the goals coming from two players. Megan Wenrich tallied her team's first and third goals (her first two of the season). Tamia Roach was responsible for goals two and four, giving her seven on the season (second on the team).
Lock Haven started with Maddie Wagenfield in the cage, who registered three saves in the first 35 minutes before Paige Stuppy was given the second half and had one save of her own.
Offensively, Rebecca McLean and Caroline Phillips each had two shots while Savanna Sheridan, Jordan Van Cleave and Charlotte Kirwan each had one apiece.
Next up, Appalachian State is at Saint Francis on Sunday and the match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
