Field Hockey Suffers 3-1 Loss to Rider
BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University field hockey (1-3, 0-1 NorPac) fell 3-1 to Rider on Sunday at the Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium despite a goal by senior Jordyn Warren.

Rider (2-2, 0-0 MAAC) came out hot, scoring just 16 minutes into the game. Allison Baligian received the ball off junior Cristina Ceppi pads and was able to put it in the net. The Mountaineers capitalized with a Warren's goal early in the second half to tie the game 1-1. That goal was Warren's second of the season.

After a slow first half, Appalachian managed all eight shots in the second period in which three of them was in the last two minutes of the game. Senior Dana Wetmore led the pack with three shots, while senior Laura Malinoski added two. Ceppi got the start and played all 70 minutes earning seven saves in the match.

Carlie Spaeder led the charge for the Broncs firing five shots, four that were on goal, and scoring one. Rider used two goalies on the day. Hannah Isaacs played 43 minutes and picked up the win while Joelle Prettyman played 27 minutes to finish the game.

The Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday facing the visiting Dukes of James Madison at 3 p.m. at the Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium.
