HANOVER, N.H. — The Appalachian State University field hockey team dropped its first conference match of the season 6-1 to the University of Pacific on Friday at the Chase Astroturf Field in Hanover, N.H.
The Mountaineers could not sustain the Tigers powerful offense, getting outshot 28-7 in the match. Ali Campos scored four goals in the match for the Tigers and
Dana Wetmore score Appalachian's only goal.
Appalachian started the match strong, earning a corner eight minutes into the match. In a push-stop-shot off a corner by freshman
Rebecca McLean, Wetmore was able to put the ball in the back of the net to give the Mountaineers the early lead.
Pacific scored the next six goals of the match.
Wetmore took four of Appalachian's eight shots with two of them on goal.
Cristina Ceppi played all 70 minutes in the net and secured six saves on the night. McLean added a defensive save for the Mountaineers.
Appalachian will return home on Sunday to face Rider at 1 p.m. at the Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium.
