BOONE, N.C. — Senior
Laura Malinoski scored Appalachian State University field hockey's (2-8, 0-1 NorPac) only goal in a 6-1 loss to Saint Joseph's (5-5, 1-1 A-10) on Sunday at Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium.
Just two minutes in the game, Appalachian was awarded a penalty stroke after the ball was covered by Saint Joseph's goalie. Malinoski took the shot and sent the ball passed the goalie to the left side to give Appalachian a very early 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers held that one-point lead throughout the first half.
Saint Joseph's scored all of its goals in the second half. Appalachian had a good push in the last three minutes of the game, but came up empty on each try.
Appalachian had five shots in the game in which four of them were on-goal. Senior

Jordan Van Cleave each recorded one shot while senior
Jordyn Warren recorded the other two shots.

Cristina Ceppi recorded the loss in the net with five saves in the match.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Oct. 5 traveling to Lynchburg, Va. to start its home-and-home with Liberty.
