WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Appalachian State University field hockey fell 2-7 on the year after a 3-0 loss at No. 16 Wake Forest on Tuesday at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Wake Forests scored twice in the first half. Karl Vicars sent a pass in the circle from the crest and it was deflected in by Brooks Doxey for her first goal of the season. The second goal came off a Mountaineer turnover. Rachel Hirsch stole a backpass and dribble one-on-one with the keeper and scored to make the score 2-0 at the end of the first half.
Fourteen minutes into the second half, all-ACC forward Anna Kozniuk scored her eighth goal of the season to give the Demon Deacons a 3-0 lead and to secure the victory.
Appalachian mustered only one shot in the game. Senior
Dana Wetmore recorded the shot for the Mountaineers with under two minutes in the first half, but the shot went wide. Goalkeeper
Cristina Ceppi recorded five saves on the Demon Deacons 22 shots.
The Mountaineers will return to action on Friday facing William and Mary at Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium at 3 p.m., then playing host to Saint Joseph's on Sunday at noon.
