OXFORD, Ohio. — Goalkeeper
Cristina Ceppi recorded a career high with 16 saves on Saturday as Appalachian State University field hockey (2-5, 0-1 NorPac) dropped a 10-1 match to Miami University at the Miami Field Hockey Turf.
By the end of the first half, Ceppi had already broken her previous career high of eight saves in a game which came in an 8-1 loss to Virginia Commonwealth University on Oct. 6, 2013.
The Mountaineers took the early lead in the game. Freshman
Amber Prince netted her first collegiate goal just 10 minutes into the game, giving Appalachian a 1-0 lead.
Nearly six minutes later, the Redhawks Ali Froede scored the equalizer off a penalty corner. Miami reeled off three more goals to end the half to make the score 4-1.
The second half was all Miami. They continued to fire shot after shot and scored six goals.
Sophomore Marissa O'Brien added a defensive save for her second of the season in the first half. Appalachian was outshot 34-4 and earned one corner to the Redhawks 13. Senior
Dana Wetmore had two shots for the Mountaineers and freshman
Abbie Roberts recorded the other shot. Freshman
Jordan Van Cleave recorded the assist on the Prince goal.
Appalachian state will look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel 118 miles east to Columbus to face Ohio State in only its second ever meeting at noon.
