Women's Cross Country Wins Montreat Open

MONTREAT, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's cross country dominated at the Hyder-McMahill Invitational at Montreat College on Saturday morning.

The Mountaineers placed five individuals in the top five, including Shelby Howell who placed first with a time of 19:29. Hana Ratcliffe finished second with a time of 19:45, while Natalie Kile ran a time of 19:53 and placed third.

In fourth was Kerry Leonard with a time of 20:06 and Mallary Price finished fifth with a personal-best time of 20:15.

"I felt really good during the race," said Howell. "It felt really good to have my teammates and coaches behind me, pushing me the whole way. Coach Curcio and Coach Weaver are both great coaches and they know how to push us to be the best athletes that we can be."

The Mountaineers will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Open.
