BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University field hockey team will look to rebound off a loss and play host to the 20th-ranked James Madison Dukes on Friday at the Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium at 3 p.m.

Senior Jordyn Warren scored the Mountianeers only goal on Sunday as the Apps dropped a close 3-1 match to Rider. Appalachian ended the game strong, firing four of its eight shots in the last two minutes of the game and will be looking to bring that energy into the match Friday against the Dukes.

Senior Dana Wetmore leads the Mountianeers offensively. Averaging a .455 shots-on-goal percentage, Wetmore has taken 11 shots on the season with a goal score and added two assists for a total of four points. Tied with four points each with Wetmore is freshman Taylor Cimbalist and senior Warren who have both scored two goals this season. The Dukes will also have to get past senior Laura Malinoski who has been a force as the last defender before the goalie and freshman Maddie Phillips who has added a defensive save on the season.

Five players on James Madison's team account for all of its shots on the season. Leading the pack is Loes Stijntjes who have four goals on the season on 13 shots taken and an assist for a total of nine points on the season thus far. Almost 70 percent of her shots have been on goal. Hannah George is expected to start in the net. She has allowed four goals on the season and has 10 saves with a perfect 3-0 record.

Since 1981, Appalachian has never beaten a ranked opponent.  Appalachian has faced James Madison seven times since 1981 and have one victory against them. In last year's matchup, Appalachian traveled to Harrisburg, Va. and dropped the match 7-0.

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Appalachian State University field hockey dropped a match against James Madison on Saturday 7-0.

The Apps (2-4, 1-1) would not find the net the entire match as James Madison (5-3, 0-0) took over, scoring seven times over the span of 70 minutes.

JMU took the lead early on with a goal by Roasalie Becker in the fourth minute of the match from an assist by Taylor West, before West scored one of her own late in the half, making the score 2-0 at halftime.

The Dukes came out strong again in the second, scoring quickly off the stick of Adrienne le Vatte.  James Madison would continue the streak, scoring four more times from Bethany Ashworth, Danni Wilson, Taylor West and Robin De Bruyne.

Freshman Lynnae Luettich, junior Laura Malinoski and sophomore Caroline Phillips recorded the Mountaineers' only three shots of the match, in comparison to the Duke's total of 34.

Two of App's goalies saw time tonight as senior Sarah Anderson recorded seven saves and sophomore Cristina Ceppi tallied two.

The Black and Gold will return to action on Sunday against Rice at 1 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.
