BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's soccer will travel to ETSU on Thursday for its second game of the regular season. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers started the season off right with a 3-1 commanding win at Elon last Sunday. Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Merlin Beckwith, contributed two goals in the contest. Beckwith's multi-goal game was the second of her career. Last season, the junior netted two goals in a 9-3 rout of The Citadel on Oct. 25th.
Freshman Lindsey Tully also had a huge game – her first wearing the Black and Gold. Tully assisted on Beckwith's first goal and then tallied one of her own on a header from a Nicole Steyl corner kick to make the game 2-0. Tully's tally would prove to be the game-winner.
The matchup on Thursday with the Buccaneers will be the Mountaineers' 10th all-time with a 7-1-1 all-time record against ETSU. Last season, the Apps' picked up a 2-1 win at home against the Bucs behind goals from current junior Kebrina Keys and standing senior Julia Holz.
A full recap and statistics will be made available following the match. After the game, the Mountaineers will have a few days before their home opener on Sunday, Aug. 31 against Liberty at 1 p.m. from Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
