Women's Track Heads to Charlotte on Friday

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's track and field is set to travel to Charlotte on Friday to compete in the Charlotte Invitational, hosted by UNC-Charlotte.

The Mountaineers will compete against USC-Upstate, East Carolina, N.C. A&T, UNCW and Charlotte.

Some of the Appalachian athletes will take the weekend off in order to prepare for the Southern Conference Championships next weekend, while a number of the athletes compete on Friday and Saturday. This will be the team's final tune up before the championships.

Breanna Alston currently ranks second in the SoCon for her time of 11.70 in the 100m dash and third in the league in the 200m dash with a time of 24.20.

Shelby Howell ranks in the top-ten in 800m run, while Justine Stocks has the fourth-best SoCon time in the 1,500m run. Katie Cagle and Tristin Van Ord rank fourth and fifth for their times in the 5,000m run.

Cassie Crawford has found the top-spot in the league in the pole vault after clearing a height of 12-5.50. Brianna Tate is also ranked first as she leads the conference in the shot put, recording a mark of 47-11.00 earlier this season and fellow thrower Jocelyn Parnell is first in the javelin, throwing a distance of 134-10.00.

The Mountaineers will compete for the Southern Conference title in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27.
