Sydnor Earns All-SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball player Maryah Sydnor was named to the Southern Conference's All-SoCon Team as selected by the league's coaches and announced Wednesday.

In addition to the coaches' All-SoCon Team, Sydnor was also selected as a first team all-conference by the league's media members.

A leader for Appalachian all season, Sydnor finished regular season play as the conference's leading scorer with 19.5 points per game. Sydnor ranks 43rd in the country in points per game average. Sydnor also led the SoCon in free throw percentage with a mark of 87.0 percent from the line.

The junior was second in the league in rebounds per game, grabbing an average of 8.8 and fifth in steals per game with 1.6. Sydnor currently ranks 21st in the nation in double-doubles as she tallied 15 this season.

Sydnor hit a milestone this season when she became the 23rd player in Appalachian history to score 1,000 points during her career. Sydnor scored 24 points to reach the mark, while getting a victory over Radford in her hometown of Radford, Va.

This is Sydnor's third-straight year of All-SoCon honors as she was named the Freshman of the Year during the 2011-12 season and was named to the All-Conference team last year.

The Mountaineers will play Elon on Saturday, March 8 at 2:15 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Southern Conference Tournament at Kimmel Arena.
