CLINTON, S.C. – A strong effort by Presbyterian was too much to overcome as Appalachian State University men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision on Monday at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers (7-9) lost all but one singles match and were defeated in the doubles competition as the Blue Hose (20-5) snapped a two-match losing streak to pick up their 20th win of the year.
Oliver Casey continued his solid season as he picked up another win in singles play to move to 10-5 on the year by downing his opponent at the No. 2 spot despite dropping the first set (6-7, 6-4, 10-1).
Appalachian's No. 1 doubles tandem of Zach Bost/Sebastien King picked up its ninth win of the season to improve to 9-3 with an 8-5 victory, but Presbyterian would win the other two doubles contests to take the doubles point.
Three Mountaineers went to three sets in their singles matches, but were unable to come up with wins. Bost dropped his match at No. 4 (6-1, 5-7, 6-2) while Daniel Hoang fell at No. 3 (6-4, 6-7, 6-1) and Jack Maddocks lost his contest at No. 4 (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Appalachian State returns home on Thursday when it hosts Southern Conference rival Furman at 2:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.
