Mountaineers Drop Final Regular Season Match

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey dropped its last regular season match to VCU 4-2. The Mountaineers finished with a 5-14 overall record after the loss. The match was orginally scheduled to be played at Brandon and Erica M. Adcock field, but was moved to Davidson due to snow in Boone.

Appalachian got on the scoreboard first when Robbi Jensen crossed the ball in front of goal and Caroline Phillips was there to steer it in the net. The goal was her first of the season. VCU's Kendell Combs leveled the score just before the half on a penalty corner play.

The Apps again started the scoring in the second half. This time Jensen was able to beat the Ram's goalkeeper to give Appalachain a one goal advantage. It was Jensen's second goal of the season and she was assisted by Rookie of the Week Savanna Sheridan.

VCU equalized again when Jamee Albright's shot got past Cristina Ceppi in the 53rd minute. It was Albright scoring again that gave VCU the lead.

The Mountaineers were unable to find a tying goal the rest of the second half. VCU converted a pentaly corner play as time expired to extent the win margin to two goals.

Ceppi had four saves during the match to take her total to 99 for the year.

The Mountaineer will travel to Stockton, California for the NorPac Conference tournament on Nov. 6-8.
