COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Appalachian State University field hockey got their third win of the season in a 2-1 road victory vs. Towson on Sunday. The win snaps an eight game losing streak that started with a loss to Miami University on Sept. 20th.
The Mountaineer offense woke up against the Tigers with 12 shots, double the team's shots per game average. The Tigers got on the board first with a goal from Sam Zelenack six minutes into the game. Appalachian equalized 12 minutes later when Hanna French recorded her second goal of the season. Laura Malinoski was credited with the assist.
Appalachian pulled ahead with Taylor Cimbalist's unassisted goal seven minutes before the half. That was all the Black and Gold would need as they held on to their 2-1 advantage through the second half.
Cristina Ceppi returned to the net after sitting out last match against Boston College. Ceppi tallied five saves in 70 minutes.
The Mountaineers play their next match at home vs. Pacific on Satuday.
