BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University volleyball will head down the mountain for its first road match of the season against Presbyterian College on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (3-0) and the Bluehose (1-3) will meet after both squads competed in weekend tournaments. Appalachian will look to improve on its perfect start to the season, while Presbyterian attempts to refresh after dropping its last two matches.
A LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINEERS
• The Mountaineers are currently 3-0 after hosting the Appalachian Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31, where they swept the competition with straight-set victories in every match.
• With the victories, Appalachian improves to 10-5 in its invite record.
• Emily Corrigan recorded a double-double in Appalachian's final game of the tournament against Norfolk State with a match-high and season-high 12 kills and 11 digs against the visiting Spartans, along with shooting a match-high .407 attack percentage.
• Corrigan also notched five blocks (1-4) against Loyola in the Mountaineers' season opening 3-0 victory over the Greyhounds on Friday, Aug. 30.
• Meghan Mahoney led the Mountaineers defensively by digs with 55 in nine games played, averaging 6.11 per game.
• Mahoney recorded match-high digs against each of Appalachian's three opponents, including 22 digs versus Loyola, 21 against Sam Houston State, and 12 versus Norfolk State.
• Freshman Kati Stammen saw action in the Mountaineers' opening weekend, playing In all three matches for Appalachian.
• She recorded six digs versus Sam Houston State, along with four and three digs against Norfolk State and Loyola, respectively.
SCOUTING THE BLUEHOSE
• The Bluehose will host their first match of the season when they welcome Appalachian to Clinton, S.C.
• Presbyterian enters the match with a 1-3 record after dropping its last two matches of the UAB/Samford Challenge falling to UAB, 3-0 and Jacksonville State, 3-0.
• Rachel Hall led the Bluehose in both matches, posting nine kills against the Blazers and seven against the Gamecocks.
• Ashtin Frank notched 43 total assists in the two matches, while Mary Trimpe recorded 29 total digs.
• The Bluehose' lone victory came in a 3-1 defeat of Georgia State on Aug. 30.
• Hall and Halle Tripp lead the Bluehose on the attack, averaging 2.08 kills/set, and are the only two Bluehose averaging better than 2.0 kills per set.
• Trimpe heads Presbyterian with 65 digs, averaging five per set for the 'Hose.
• Senior middle blocker Andrea Barman adds strength for Presbyterian on both sides of the ball, averaging .62 blocks/set while adding 1.62 kills/set and shooting .138 on the attack.
APP STATE VS. PRESBYTERIAN
• The Mountaineers are 2-2 all-time against Presbyterian College.
• Appalachian swept its last match against the Bluehose, 3-0, on August 24, 2007 in the Charlotte Invitational.
UP NEXT
• Appalachian State returns to tournament action at the NC State Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
• The Mountaineers will face NC State on Friday before matching up against Towson and Binghamton on Saturday.
• The NC State Tournament will mark the midway point for Appalachian's regular-season tournament play.
