Appalachian State University baseball nears the end of its road-heavy early-season Southern Conference road schedule this weekend when it plays three games at UNC Greensboro. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Saturday and Sunday's games can be heard live on WATA 1450 AM in Boone and worldwide at GoASU.com. David Jackson (play-by-play) and Randy Jackson (analyst) will call all the action for this weekend's Appalachian IMG Sports Network broadcasts.

Appalachian State (18-10, 8-6 SoCon) has won eight of its last 11 games overall and four of its last six SoCon contests. The Mountaineers opened a nine-game road stint with a workmanlike 6-3 victory at UNC Asheville.

The nine-game stretch away from home includes Appalachian's final two road series of the season — this weekend at UNCG and next weekend at The Citadel. After playing five of its first seven conference series of the season on the road, the Mountaineers close the SoCon campaign with three-straight home series against teams that, like Appalachian, are packed tightly in the top half of the conference standings (April 26-28 vs. Samford, May 3-5 vs. Elon and May 16-18 vs. Western Carolina).

A red-hot front end of the rotation highlights the Mountaineers' storylines going into this weekend's series at UNCG. Leading the way is Friday night starter Jamie Nunn, who leads the SoCon in wins (6), ranks ninth in ERA (3.17) and has been credited with quality starts (six or more innings pitched, three or fewer earned runs allowed) in seven of his eight starts this season.

Appalachian's hottest hurler, however, is Saturday starter Sam Agnew-Wieland. Agnew-Wieland is tied for second in the league in victories (5), ranks fifth in opponents' batting average (.228) and is the two-time defending SoCon Pitcher of the Week after working back-to-back complete-game shutouts versus Wofford (March 30) and Georgia Southern (April 6). The right-handed junior has worked 19-consecutive scoreless innings and surrendered just seven hits (all singles, only two of which have left the infield) and struck out 21 during that stretch, which dates back to March 23.

UNCG is 16-17 overall and 4-8 in SoCon play under first-year head coach Link Jarrett. After taking 2-of-3 games from then-first-place Georgia Southern two weekends ago, the Spartans have dropped four of their last five games, including a 17-2 drubbing at the hands of Duke on Tuesday. No. 1 starter Max Povse is coming off a complete-game shutout of his own, as he allowed just five hits to blank College of Charleston, 12-0, last Friday night.
