GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryah Sydnor led Appalachian State to a 77-46 season-sweep against Southern Conference foe University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Wednesday afternoon at Fleming Gym.
The Mountaineers (19-7, 13-5 SoCon) capped off their road schedule with their second double-digit victory over the Spartans (6- 21, 3-15 SoCon).
Appalachian put the first two on the board off a Kelsey Sharkey layup (2-0). Sidnei Harmon answered with a jumper to knot the score (2-2), but Sydnor immediately followed with two to edge the Mountaineers (4-2), who never trailed against a sloppy UNCG.
Sydnor led first half scoring with 12 points to give Appalachian a 16 point lead heading into the locker room (38-22).
UNCG's Jessica Collins opened the second half with a clean three (38-25), but the Mountaineers responded, unleashing on a 19-0 run over the next 5:12 to garner a solid 30 point lead (57-27). The Black & Gold would continue to dominate, grabbing 39 second-half points, and leading by as many as 36 points.
Sydnor led all players in scoring with 18 points on the night, while Anna Freeman recorded yet another double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds along with five steals.
Breonna Patterson paced UNCG with 14 points, along with three Spartans who grabbed five boards each, including Janae' Stevenson, Ebona Goins, and Jazmine Missouri.
Appalachian shot 51.5 percent (34-for-66) on the afternoon, but limited UNCG to just 28 percent (14-for-50) of its shots. The Mountaineers outrebounded UNCG 45 to 27, and dished out 27 assists to the Spartans' eight.
GAME NOTES: Courtney Freeman finished with six rebounds, adding her to Appalachian's all-time top ten list. The Mountaineers finished with three players in double-digits, including Sydnor who poured in 18, while both A. Freeman and C. Freeman put up 13 each. Appalachian grabbed 40 points in the pain to UNCG's 16, along with 28 points off turnovers.
