Women's Hoops Host First Conference Game

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball is set to host its first conference game of the 2013-14 season on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Western Carolina at 6 p.m.

The Mountaineers (1-3) enter Tuesday's game after a 69-63 loss to Gardner-Webb on Nov. 19, while the Catamounts (2-3) have won two-straight against UNC-Asheville and Georgia State.

APP vs. WCU
• The Mountaineers will play their first Southern Conference game of the season against WCU on Tuesday at the Holmes Center.
• Appalachian has played Western Carolina more than any other conference opponent, as they have met 100 times since 1970.
• The Apps hold a 67-33 record against the Catamounts.
• The Mountaineers are 9-2 against WCU under the reign of head coach Darcie Vincent and have won the past nine meetings.

All About the Apps
Appalachian State • 1-3
• The Mountaineers come off a battle with Gardner-Webb, losing the game in the last 40 seconds with a score of 69-63.
Maryah Sydnor led the Apps in scoring for the fourth-straight game, tallying 18 points.
• Sydnor recorded her second double-double of the season, also notching 12 rebounds.
• Sydnor currently leads the conference in scoring with an average of 22.5 points per game.
• Sydnor is also third in the SoCon in free throw percentage, shooting 90.9 percent.
• Sydnor is sixth in the conference in rebounds with an average of 8.0 per game.
Katie Mallow also had an impressive performance in the game against GWU, scoring 17 points.
• Mallow and Sydnor are both tied at fifth in the SoCon in 3-point FG made.
Joi Jones got her third start at point guard this season, scoring 13 points, recording four assists and making five steals on the game.
• Jones is ranked second in the conference in steals per game with 3.0 and third in assist/turnover ratio with a ratio of 1.1.
• The Mountaineers currently lead the conference in offensive rebounding, averaging 42.0 per game.
• The team is also leading the SoCon in rebounding margin (+2.0), blocked shots (3.8), and steals (9.5).
• The Apps have not started a season 1-3 since 2009-10, still finishing second in SoCon play.
• In App State's last meeting with Western Carolina they managed a 63-32 win over the Catamounts.
• Sydnor scored a game-high 16 points, while Anna Freeman added 12.
• The only 2013-14 returners to score in the game besides Sydnor were Mallow (8), Bria Huffman (4) and LaShawna Gatewood (2).

Scouting the Catamounts
Western Carolina • 2-3
• The Catamounts have started the season 2-3 after winning their last two games against UNC-Asheville and Georgia State.
• In the 74-61 win over Georgia State on Saturday, WCU had four players score in double-figures.
• Lindsay Simpson led the way for the Cats with 17 points.
• Shauna Terry, Justin Taylor and Makensey Campbell each added 12 points in the win.
• Simpson has led the team in points this season, averaging 14.8 per game.
• Western Carolina is third in the conference in defensive field goal percentage, holding the defense to shooting 40.3 percent from the floor.
• WCU is also ranked third in turnover margin (+2.40) and assist/turnover ratio (0.8).

• The Mountaineers will have over a week off from games during the Thanksgiving holiday as they prepare to take on North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in Greensboro, N.C.
