BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University volleyball dominated the match against Western Carolina on Sunday evening, winning in three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23.
The Catamounts (16-8, 6-4 SoCon) took an early 2-0 lead in the first set before the Mountaineers (14-10, 5-5) could tie the set at eight. Appalachian would pull ahead for the rest of the set, winning 25-22.
The second set began with the Mountaineers taking a quick 9-2 lead. Despite the Catamounts pulling within 3 points to make the score 15-12, App State would find a comfortable win, taking the second set 25-17.
The third set would be a competitive one for both teams as the score was tied five different times. With the score tied at eight, Appalachian would pull ahead for good and take the third 25-23, winning the match 3-0.
Emily Corrigan had another productive match for the Mountaineers, recording 16 kills on the night. Lauren Gray also produced offensively, ending the match with 11 kills.
Paige Brown tallied a match high 43 assists, while Meghan Mahoney notched a match high 21 digs on the night.
The Mountaineers hit a dominating .314, while holding the Catamounts to a .235 attack percentage.
Appalachian will return to action on Nov. 1 when they travel to play SoCon opponent Elon at 7 p.m.
