DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey dropped its
2012 season opener to Georgetown, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead over the Hoyas at the 17:12
mark of the first half when sophomore Jordyn Warren found the back of the goal
from the top of the circle. Georgetown knotted the score at 1-1 with just four
minutes left in the first half.
The Hoyas took a 2-1 lead early in the second half over the
Apps when Kimberly Keating scored off a pass from Annie Wilson. Georgetown
extended their lead to two just three minutes later when Wilson scored a goal
off a rebound.
Appalachian struck one more time in the match when they
would get a penalty corner at the 56:42 mark. The senior duo of Megan High and
Casey Lammando combined for the goal when High scored off a pass from Lammando,
making the score 3-2.
The goal would not be enough as the Mountaineers fell, 3-2.
With the loss, Appalachian State falls to 0-1 on the season,
while Georgetown improves to 1-0 overall on the season.
The Apps return to action Sunday, Aug. 26 when they take on
William and Mary at Davidson. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
