Most Memorable Moments of 2011-12: No. 28

For the third-straight year, GoASU.com is counting down Appalachian State University athletics' 30 most memorable games, matches and meets from the 2011-12 academic year. This year's countdown began on Wednesday, July 4 and will continue until Thursday, August 2, the day before the ASU football hits the practice field for the first time to unofficially open the 2012-13 campaigns.

Mountaineers Finish 4th at SoCon Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Juniors Alex Taylor and Will Raby earned second-team all-conference as Appalachian State University men's cross country finishes fourth at the Southern Conference Championships in Charleston, S.C.

The Mountaineers top-five runners elapsed their personal best times on the 8k Trophy Lake Course.  Taylor finished in eighth place overall with the time of 24:33.28, while Raby finished ninth at the 24:41.49 mark.

Senior Nick Kelly crossed the finish line with the time of 25:07.07 for 20th-place while sophomore James Howard-Smith finished in 24th-place with the time of 25:20.01.  Junior Brian Graves rounded out the Mountaineers' top-five finishers with 30th-place with the time of 25:28.58.

The fourth-place finish continues an incredible run for ASU men's cross country in which they have placed among the SoCon's top four teams for 31-straight years, including 30-straight top-three finishes from 1981-2010.

UNCG's Paul Chelimo led from the start of the race to claim the individual title on the 8K course, finishing in a time of 23:11.56.

UNCG's 26 points is the lowest point total since Chattanooga's 24 points in 1998, and placed four runners in the top-seven.  Davidson claimed second place with 73 points and was followed by Furman (82 pts.), Appalachian State (91 pts.), and Chattanooga (103 pts.).
